In every generation, the church is called to discern afresh how the timeless truths of Scripture speak into the realities of our time. Dr. Barry Danylak’s work, Singleness in God’s Redemptive Story, is a profound and timely contribution to this discernment.

For centuries, marriage and family have rightly been celebrated as gifts of God. Yet, as Dr. Danylak shows with clarity and conviction, singleness is not a deficiency but a calling — one that bears deep theological significance within the unfolding narrative of redemption. In Christ, the new covenant community is not defined by physical offspring but by spiritual rebirth, and in this reality, both married and single believers testify to the sufficiency of Christ and the hope of His kingdom.

This book is not merely an academic exploration; it is a pastoral word for our churches today. In a world where increasing numbers of men and women live single lives — whether by choice, circum-stance, or calling — the church must recover a vision that honors and empowers them. Singleness, as Dr. Danylak reminds us, is not “less than” but a vital witness to the gospel, pointing us to the ultimate marriage feast of the Lamb.

As pastors, leaders, and congregations, may we receive this work with humility and gratitude. May it challenge us to embrace singles not as peripheral members but as indispensable co-laborers in God’s mission. And may it inspire us to build communities where every believer — married or single — finds belonging, purpose, and joy in Christ.

It is my prayer that this book will serve as a catalyst for vision casting in our ministries, equipping us to shepherd with greater compassion and theological depth. May the Lord use it to strengthen His church and magnify His glory.

Bishop Dr. Noel Pantoja, DMin.

National Director, Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC), the umbrella organization of 91 evangelical denominations, more than 55,000 evangelical local churches, and 313 missions and para church organizations in the Philippines

As a single man in ministry, I have read many books on singleness. Besides the Bible, Dr. Barry Danylak’s Singleness in God’s Redemptive Story is by far—hands down—the best resource on biblical singleness and true family. My first copy had so many highlights and marginalia that there was barely any white paper visible. It is one of those very few books that will really blow your mind. What Danylak has done is not present anything new, but has simply communicated the beautiful truth of what Scripture communicates on singleness and family in light of God’s redemptive story. He has provided us with one of the best examples of biblical theology—how one topic is first expressed in the Old Testament and then progressively revealed fully in the New Testament. Even more spectacular is the fact that Danylak has made this immensely accessible for any layperson. I’m not speaking in hyperbole and I cannot say this strongly enough, but every church leader and every Christian who desires to minister in the modern West—where there are more single adults than married—must read this book.

Christopher Yuan, DMin

Speaker and author of Holy Sexuality and the Gospel: Sex, Desire, and Relationships Shaped by God's Grand Story

When I met Barry Danylak at Tyndale House in Cambridge, England, in the summer of 2006, I was amazed at the research he was doing on a biblical theology of singleness. Not only was the scope of it unprecedented, but the theological and practical insights struck me as biblically compelling and practically urgent. I don’t know of anyone else who has ever provided the extent of biblical reflection on singleness that Barry has provided for us here.

Dr. John Piper

Founder, Desiring God

With insight and clarity, Danylak has presented profound biblical and theological truth that can revolutionize the church’s understanding and affirmation of singleness.

Steve Brown

Key Life Network Radio, Orlando

As Senior Pastor of a local church with many people who are not married, I have come to realize, through many years of ministry, just how important it is to be intentional in building into the lives of those who are single. Our mission is to disciple each individual, whether single or married, to become a fully devoted follower of Jesus who will be equipped to introduce others to Jesus and to accomplish God’s redemptive purposes in the world. SEE Globally is able to come alongside and equip the church in this strategy as it seeks to teach a biblical theology of singleness and marriage and build into the lives of each of its members.

Dr. Henry Schorr

Senior Pastor, Centre Street Church

An unmatched theology of the satisfying opportunity of singleness to reveal God in a unique way from married people.

Dr. Larry Crabb

Founder/Director, NewWay Ministries

I like the way Danylak methodically and progressively turns over pieces of the biblical jigsaw and assembles them to reveal a thoughtful perspective on marriage and procreation. From the New Testament he firmly grasps the nettle of exegetically difficult passages, and with reference to the cultural influences brings a redemptive perspective to singleness for the contemporary world.

John D. Wilson

Missiologist and mentor (Southeast Asia), World Team

Amidst extremes of celibacy versus marriage in Christian traditions on the one hand and today’s proliferation of sexual noncommitment on the other, Danylak gives us a thorough-going biblical theology of singleness.
